In fact, since September 11th, 2001, there have been 6858 American service men and women killed on the battlefield.

Unions Hope Cuomo Signs Utility Worker Safety Bill

The utility worker assault bill is now on Governor Cuomo's desk and union leaders are hoping he will sign it soon. As we discussed back in the spring, the measure would increase the penalties for attacking a utility worker. Joining us from New York City to explain more is Pat Guidice from IBEW Local 1049.

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the summer months, again I am proud to say that the Local 503 Picnic was successful and the proceeds went towards the Needy Member Fund. Despite the threatening weather a good time was had by all. I would like to thank all that attended for their support. It was so enjoyable to see all of the members, families and friends interact with one another and the children enjoying all of the activities that were provided for them.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped set up, supplied the tents and cooked, along with the picnic committee members. A special thanks goes out to Melissa Kurtz and Kenny Titland for organizing and putting in all of their time to make this such an enjoyable day. I hope that next year the weather will cooperate and we can get more members involved in the planning and I hope to see everyone out in support of next year’s event.

NRG Negotiations 2016
Updates

            May 17, 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The results of the Contract between IBEW LU 503 and NRG(GenOn) are in. The membership overwhelmingly ratified this Contract. The vote was 29 for and 4 against totaling 33 out of 36 eligible members entitled to vote on this Contract.

We would like to thank the Committee Members for all of their hard work and dedication throughout bargaining. The membership at NRG property should be extremely proud of the time and effort put forward by the Committee.

This contract is a 5 year deal with wage increases equaling 12.75% respectfully as well as additional $1000 bonuses for the first 2 years. The vacation schedule was enhanced for newer members and the medical plan remained unchanged. There was an enhancement to the 401k plan allowing for all gross earnings to be calculated towards contributions. Our members will continue to receive benefits as current with some enhancements.

In the Utility Industry we believe this is a fair and equitable Contract ensuring our members financial security for the next 5 years.

Thank you all for your continued support, without it this would not have been possible.

Fraternally Yours,

Scott Jensen

Hello Union Members,

We continued negotiating with the Company today.  Tomorrow we have a federal mediator involved with negotiations.

Progress is very slow.

The Company is not interested in any pension proposal. They are also not offering up the $15 co-pay plan.

The strike lists are being circulated throughout the plant.

Our International Rep. will be joining us tomorrow, as we continue to negotiate for a fair contract.

Holiday letter from Brian McPartland

November 10, 2014

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

Another year has passed and we’re entering the holiday season. I’d like to wish all members best wishes for a healthy, happy and joyous season.

All of our members should be proud of all the dedication shown to the employers whom Local 503 is associated with. Throughout the year we keep the gas flowing, electricity supplied and generated as well as communications and data transmitted.

It is the hard work of you, the members, that enables our employers to remain efficient, profitable and safe corporations. We are all blessed and continually show our gratitude. Whether through our 5k run for the Wounded Warrior Project or the food baskets given to our communities needy during the holidays our members are second to none.  We always step up to assist and it makes me proud to be part of I.B.E.W. Local Union 503.

Our members are volunteers in fire departments, ambulance corps, youth sports organizations and this list could go on. We’ve been United Way supporters for years and are proud that we are a major reason that Orange & Rockland Utilities has continually been the areas number one contributor to the United Way.

I just wanted to take this time to thank each member for another successful year. I’m positive that 2015 will be another year where our members will shine. We are a Union of men & women that will remain strong and united.

If any members have any ideas where we can be of assistance to our communities, we’d love to hear them. Ideas can be shared at the monthly union meetings and we’re always looking for members input & assistance.

I want to remind everyone that once again we will be sponsoring Toys for Tots campaign. Look for boxes for unwrapped toys at work stations. If any location is in need of a box be sure to call the Union Hall and inform us. I’d also like to remind members at O&R Utilities that if you’d like to make your tax deductible donation to the United Way be sure to reach out to me personally at the Union Hall.

In closing, I want to again express my sincere wishes for a Happy Holiday and Fruitful New Year.

                                                           Fraternally Yours,

Letter from President Scott Jensen

Dear Brothers & Sisters,

It is with great pleasure to inform you that this year’s 5k run/walk fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior project raised $5,500. This year’s event was graced with the presence of the US Army Reserves Honor Guard and members, who performed the opening ceremony.

The generous contributions from the many sponsors, 503 members, 50/50 sales, raffle donations and the participants themselves contributed to the overall success of the event for which this Local Union is proud.

Special thanks to Vice President Ken Titland and Recording Secretary Linda Petrosky for another outstanding job organizing the event. Thanks to Steve Rinaldi and the 3-385th Regiment, the many volunteers, sponsors, donators and all of the runners/walkers that participated in making this such a special and successful event.

Thanks Again,

Local 503 50/50 raffles!

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 503,
As we get closer to the holiday season, we continue to think about the needy people in our local and in the communities where we live.
Each December, Local 503 goes food shopping for two very worthy charities. The House on The Hill in Goshen and People to People in Rockland. These two organizations provide food and services for those less fortunate than ourselves. The money that pays for this food comes from our charity golf outing and the sale of our 50/50 raffles.
Please help make this a special holiday season by purchasing a 50/50 raffle ticket today. The tickets are available from your shop stewards or other union officials. The price is $5.00. The next drawing will be at the November General Meeting. Thank you for your participation.
You can check our website for a list of shop stewards and officers at: http//www.ibew503.org.

Holiday Season

                                                                                                    November 18, 2013

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

The Holiday Season is quickly approaching and I want to wish you and all your loved ones a safe and memorable season.

It’s important to remember those less fortunate and assist in any way we can. It’s easy to take for granted the little things that are blessings in our lives.

Our membership is comprised of some of the most caring, dedicated, giving people that I know.
We volunteer in local fire departments, Little League and other organized sports, ambulance corps., churches to name a few. This list goes on and on and I’m proud to represent the members of IBEW Local 503.

In the upcoming months we will again be sponsoring Toys for Tots, giving food baskets to needy members of our communities in both Orange and Rockland Counties.  I thank all of you for all you do for the communities in which we reside.

I want to remind everyone to be sure to send in your United Way contribution cards. Even if you’re unable to donate, we have to track cards to be sure everyone had an opportunity to contribute.  The United Way is a great organization and collectively we impact many people in ways large and small. The impact of a small donation of even a dollar a week is huge. When we give collectively it shows the communities where we live that we care and that they matter. The less fortunate thank us profusely and the United Way aids the less fortunate.  In closing, if you haven’t returned your cards I ask that you do so. Please send all cards to Linda Feger at Blue Hill.

Thank you again Brothers and Sisters and may you have a blessed Holiday Season.

Fraternally Yours,
Brian McPartland
