SHERIDAN, PATRICIA L.

Patricia Sheridan passed away on May 17, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born in the Bronx to John and Mary (Nee Kileen) Foley. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Arthur, her daughter, Carole, and two sons, Stephen and his wife Kathleen, and Ryan and his wife Alyson, along with six grandchildren Kerri Dugan, Stephen, Thomas, and Kelly Sheridan, and Nicholas and Dana Sheridan all who reside in the town of Clarkstown, NY. Mrs. Sheridan was very proud of her Irish heritage and the contributions her family made toward the United States. Her brother, John, served in the Marine Corp and died in the battle of Okinawa during World War II. She graduated from Mother Cabrini High School. She moved to Rockland County from the Bronx in 1962 where she resided in West Nyack and became involved in St. Anthony's Church and various community organizations. In 1981, she moved to Valley Cottage, NY. Mrs. Sheridan was employed as a nursing assistant, school aide, purchasing agent with the County of Rockland and Town Clerk for the Town of Clarkstown. She was an active member of the Clarkstown Republican Party since moving to Rockland. She was involved in many local and State campaigns for public offices. For her it was always about the ideas and the people. She entered politics to try make a difference and to help people. She was elected and served as Clarkstown Town Clerk from 1977 to 2005. A dedicated public servant to the people of Clarkstown her motto was: "We believe in being as polite as possible and in going the extra mile for anyone who needs our help. We are here to serve the people, and while I know every politician in the world says that, here we make it a reality". She made herself available to all constituents and others any day or time it was needed. Patricia was an avid reader and could converse and debate on many different subjects with special enthusiasm for political discussions. She found great pleasure in the buying and selling of antiques. Patricia was always interested in trying new activities. Well past retirement age she became active with "The Lady Bugs" a financial study group. Throughout her entire life Patricia continued to help those in need as well as support her friends and community by her involvement in organizations or private individual efforts. She and her husband Arthur participated in Marriage Encounter for more than 30 years from which they developed lifelong friends and spiritual support. Colleagues and family marveled at her approachability, her gift for listening and explaining and her patience and humility. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially during the holidays and watching Notre Dame College football games. She became a big fan after her granddaughter Kerri attended and graduated from Notre Dame. She delighted and enjoyed in all the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and extended family. Patricia is predeceased by her sister Margaret Fella and brother John Foley Family will receive family and friends on Wed. May 19, 2010 from 7 - 9pm & Thurs. May 20, 2010 from 3-5 to 7-9 PM at the "Family Owned" Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Fri. May 21, 2010 at 10:00am in St Anthony's Shrine Church, Nanuet, NY.
