In keeping with the times, Local 503 will
also be moving forward with the possibility of opening up a
new bi-lingual classification.
There will be a vote on the supplemental agreement at the
July monthly meeting.
Myself, the Officers, and the Bi-Lingual Committee stand
strongly behind this agreement, and we urge our members to
support it as well when voting.
Please make every effort to attend the meeting and vote
'yes' for these new positions in the Local

To All Members of 503:
The Local is aware of a recent statement released by the
Company to the
employees regarding Dress Appearance. It is the position of
this Local that
this policy has always been for management, and not the
bargaining unit.
Therefore, this does not affect Local 503 members.
If the Company wants to implement a policy change that will impact our
members financially, which requiring the revamping of an
individual's
wardrobe would, it needs to be negotiated.
Any mandating by the Company will be dealt with through the
grievance
process and will be in violation of many articles of Local
503's CBA
The Bargaining Unit employees will continue to wear what
they have been
wearing on a daily basis unless the Company negotiates
otherwise.

Brian W. Scott

Brothers and Sisters:
Some of the membership may be aware, and some may not be
aware that Local 503 has many unsung heroes within our
midst. We have members who volunteer their time and services
selflessly throughout the three counties we cover, yet their
story is never told!
We'd like to start making their stories known by running a
'503 Member of the Month' edition, congratulating and
recognize these members for all they do.
If you are one of the Local 503 unsung heroes that has a
story to tell or know of one you'd like us all to be made
aware of, please e-mail Press Secretary Glenn Smith with
your story so we can tell it to the rest of the members, as
well as anyone viewing our website.
Thank you.
In Solidarity,
Brian W. ScottPresident/Business Manager

With the severe inclement weather we're
currently experiencing, and will continue to experience
through early Saturday in the service territory, I wanted to
take a minute to remind the membership that there is nothing
more important then each and every member's safety. It
should be on the forefront of everyone's mind, in
everything, whether it's reporting for duty, on the job, or
driving home safely.
As you all know, putting safety first ensures everyone's
safe return home at the end of the day to their families.
Please be safe.

Good Evening Brothers and Sisters of Local 503:
I come to you tonight with a heavy heart to announce the
resignation of Business Representative, Brian McPartland.
Brian has been of service to the Local for many years,
starting as Treasurer and moving on to Business
Representative.
Sadly, after having to do some deep soul searching, Brian
has reached the decision to resign. Due to both health and
personal issues, he feels he is no longer able to handle the
responsibilities required to properly fill the Business
Representatives duties, and to serve this Local as it should
be.
Personally, I'd like to thank Brian for his service to Local
503, wish him well and all the very best. I ask that every
one of the members join me in doing the same when you see
him.
The second announcement I bring to the membership this
evening is Scott Jensen, Vice President, will be stepping
into the Business Representative position.
Thank you Scott for all you've done as Vice President and
for accepting the new position and challenges it brings.
Fraternally,
Brian W. Scott
President/Business Manager

Dear Brothers and Sisters:
I’d like to thank the members who
helped put together 80 Christmas Food Baskets
today.
These food baskets were jam packed
with food to be distributed to needy families in
Fifty baskets were delivered to
‘House on the Hill’ in
I’d also like to thank Pat Greaven
and Joe Trizzino from Local 503.3 Mirant for doing all the

Slevin, Steve Reynolds and son, Steve Jr., returning
volunteer retiree John Eagan, and recent retiree Jim Kovach
from O&R for helping assemble and deliver the 80 baskets.
Lastly, I want to thank all the
members of Local 503 for their generosity during the Toys
For Tots drive, and for participating in purchasing our

At last
night's E-Board meeting, a vote was held regarding the open
seat
on the board and the open position for Treasurer.
After serious consideration, Scott Gotay has been awarded
the Treasurer
position, and Tom Arone was elected to the E-Board. We are
confident
that the winning candidates for both these positions are the
right fit,
and they will do a good job for the Local and its members.
I'd also like to thank all members who applied for these
openings.
Please join me in congratulating both Scott and Tom in their
new
positions.
Fraternally,
Brian W. Scott

To All Members of Local 503:
As discussed at the monthly meeting, members are to use their area Shop Stewards at all times when needing representation.
In the event your Steward is not available, there is usually one close by to assist you.
To help make it easier for members for locate a Steward if theirs is absent due to illness or vacation, we've set up a link identifying department stewards, as well as Chief Stewards who will provide additional support for the members to turn to.
Your Steward will then be in communication directly with the Officers of the Local.
Although President Scott tries to be accessible to everyone, he can't always be. This is why we have our appointed Stewards ready to assist you.
Please refer to this page when in need of representation if you do not know who your Steward is, and to also note one close by to call on if your Steward is absent.

Brothers and Sisters,
This morning I post this entry with a heavy heart. One of
our brothers was injured in an unfortunate accident
yesterday in Ramsey N.J. This young talented Line Technician
was rushed to a burn unit in New Jersey. I ask for all of
your thoughts and prayers for his speedy recovery. I have to
take this opportunity to remind all workers to pay attention
to whatever job you're assigned to. I understand how much
this impacts each and every one of you that work at O&R
however we must continue to remain focused. The commodities
that we work with everyday are extremely dangerous and
demand undivided attention. I am proud to serve as the
President/Business Manager of the finest workers in the
utility industry. Local Union 503 members are the best at
what they do. Coming from the Line Technician classification
myself makes this time extremely difficult. I know first
hand the issues and hazards associated with the simplest of
tasks. So whether you're working with electric, gas, reading
or testing meters, maintaining a facility, testing
equipment, repairing vehicles, or are in an office working
remember to do 1 task at a time and when that task is
completed safely move on to the next. Please Brothers and
Sisters remember SAFETY FIRST. We must watch out for each
others welfare at all times. The reason that we of the IBEW
call each other Brother or Sister is that's what we are,
FAMILY.
Fraternally Yours,
Brian W. Scott
