Local 503 MC Information

LU 503 MC

Dear Brothers and Sisters of IBEW Local 503,

IBEW Local 503 has started a local chapter of the IBEW Motorcycle Club.  We are now accepting members in good standing who would like to join. There are a few rules that are NOT negotiable.  In order to be a member you must:

1.     Be a member of Local 503 in good standing, of fine character and a licensed operator of an “American Made” – “Union Made” motorcycle in excess of 880cc’s.

2.     You must purchase a patch set from Local 503 that must be installed on a black leather “American Made” vest. The patch set includes the large back patch, which is pictured above, and a breast patch with our local number and city. The patch set costs $75.00.

3.     Affiliating with any 1% club is forbidden. We are a Trade Union riding club.

The annual dues will be $40.00, which will be due upon joining.  If you are interested in joining the IBEW riding club, contact me.

June 2, 2014

We have an extension until June 3, 2014 at midnight!

June 1, 2014

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

The parties can't seem to come to terms on major issues such as Pension, Medical and Wages.  We make this Company profitable and expect to have all members treated with respect and dignity!  We will not have garbage shoved down our throats!  The Federal Mediator has been called in.  Our contract has been extended to midnight June 2nd.

Remember, "United we bargain, divided we beg!"

May 30, 2014

Dear Members of IBEW LU 503,

We've been negotiating in good faith and haven't seen the Company bargaining in return.  The parties have agreed to an extension of the current contract until Monday June 2nd at midnight.  We must continue working until that time.

This Company is extremely lucrative because of our members dedication.  The major items Medical, Pension are under attack and we demand to be treated with respect and dignity.  The parties convened for the evening at 9:00pm Friday for a cool off period.  We will reconvene tomorrow at 8:00am and will continue to bargain until we have an agreement that we can recommend for member ratification.  We appreciate member support and want all to be assured that we are fighting for all members and will continue to do so.

Message of Support,

A Message from James T. Slevin, President, and all the Members of UWUA Local 1-2, in support of our Brothers and Sisters at IBEW Local 503: Brothers and Sisters of Local 503, you have the undivided support of UWUA Local 1-2 in your battle for a just and honorable contract with Orange & Rockland. As we saw in the actions of O&R’s parent company, Con Edison, in 2012, your bosses will stop at nothing to strip you of your hard-earned benefits. Con Ed used cold, cynical tactics in 2012 when it locked out Local 1-2; and its after-effects of bitterness are felt to this day. So we are hopeful that O&R observed its parent’s thoughtless actions, thought twice and extended talks to avoid another dangerous upheaval. There is no doubt that Con Edison endangered the public when it locked-out Local 1-2. Because of Con Ed’s union- busting actions in 2012, it has drawn extra scrutiny from State and federal regulators, especially when it comes to public safety. We are certain that the O&R bosses know this too. They are on notice. We know our Brothers and Sisters at Local 503 will remain strong while seeking a good contract that reaps the fruit of their labor. Solidarity is key. Local 1-2 stands tall with you in Unity.

Dear Members of IBEW LU 503,

IBEW Local 503 continues to negotiate with the Company.  We want to assure all members that we continue to fight for an equitable and fair agreement.   We are still at the table and will continue to bargain in good faith.  Every member should continue working and remain strong.  The picket list has been distributed and is in place for each member to know where they need to report, in case of a work stoppage.  Rest assured, a work stoppage would need International approval and is a last resort.

If your name is not on the list, please email info@ibew503.org.

MAY 28, 2014

Dear Members of IBEW LU 503,

IBEW 503 and Orange and Rockland Utilities continue to negotiate and still have many items that need to be addressed. The big ticket items have received some attention and we continue to attempt to reach a fair and equitable settlement. We will continue to bargain until we feel that we have a package that would be palatable and acceptable to all of our members.

We appreciate all of the support from all the members and request that they remain strong and committed to being the best workforce in the utility industry. This company is lucrative because of the dedication of Local Union 503 members. We demand the respect and acknowledgement for this dedication. Together we are an asset to both this company and the communities in which we live. We keep the lights on, and the gas flowing without us the public would suffer greatly.

We want all members to keep working and do so diligently. This message will be updated accordingly.

May 27, 2014

We met today and had moderate movement.  The big ticket items, such as Medical and Pension are still outstanding.  We will continue to bargain in good faith and expect the same from the Company.  Continue to perform your duties as usual.  Thank you all for your continued support.

May 23, 2014

We continue to meet on a daily basis in an attempt to reach a fair and equitable agreement. The talks are moving slowly with all of the large ticket items on the table and miles apart.

We the members of Local Union 503 come to work at all hours of the day, in all types of weather and lose valuable time with our loved ones. We will not settle for a package that does not enhance our statures in the communities in which we live. We appreciate your continued support and dedication. We make this Company profitable and expect to be treated with the dignity that we deserve.

We ask that all members remain patient and continue to perform their duties in the most professional manner as they always have. We are and will continue to be the best workforce in the utility industry. This message shall be updated accordingly.

Thank you,

Officers of IBEW Local 503
